How much does weekly pool cleaning cost in Southwest Florida?

The honest answer from a company that does it every day: what you should expect to pay in Sarasota, Charlotte, Manatee, and Lee counties, what is included at each price, and how to tell a real service from a guy with a net.

The short answer

In our area, weekly residential pool service runs from about $100 a month for a chemicals-only stop up to $180 to $250 a month for full service on a large or uncaged pool. Our prices are $105 for chem stop, $139.99 for full service, and $179 for premium. Most companies price similarly; the difference is what actually happens at each visit.

What you are paying for

A weekly plan is really three things bundled together. Knowing that helps you compare quotes.

• Chemicals. Chlorine, acid, stabilizer, and balancers are included in the monthly price with most reputable companies. Ask. If chemicals are billed separately, the low monthly number is not the real number.
• Labor. Skim, brush walls and steps, empty skimmer and pump baskets, vacuum as needed, check equipment. A real full-service visit takes 20 to 35 minutes. If the truck is gone in six, you are getting a chem stop at a full-service price.
• Reliability. The same technician on the same day every week, and a text or note when it is done. This is the part that fails first with cheap operators.

Why Florida pools cost more to keep than northern ones

Our pools run twelve months a year in heat, sun, and afternoon storms. Chlorine burns off in days, rain dilutes chemistry, and algae doubles in hours at 88 degrees. A pool that is fine with a check every two weeks in Ohio will go green in ten days here in August. Weekly is not an upsell in Southwest Florida; it is the minimum.

What makes the price go up

• No screen enclosure (leaves, needles, and rain all land in the pool)
• Large pools over about 20,000 gallons
• Heavy tree cover, especially oaks and slash pines
• Salt systems that need cell cleaning
• Spas and water features that need separate attention
• Rental or vacation homes with heavy swimmer loads

Five questions to ask any pool service

• Are chemicals included in the monthly price?
• Will I have the same technician every week?
• Do you text or leave a note after each visit?
• Is there a contract or cancellation fee? (Ours: none.)
• What happens if the pool goes green on your watch?

When a green-to-clean makes more sense first

If the pool is already green, no weekly plan can fix it in one visit and any company that says otherwise is guessing. A green-to-clean starting at $350 clears it in a few days, then a weekly plan keeps it that way. Skipping the cleanup and going straight to weekly usually costs more in chemicals and frustration.
